Miter Gates
Miter Gates are used on canals, rivers and dams to allow boats to bypass any obstructive structure in its navigational path and/or for the raising and lowering of boats between stretches of different water levels.
The Navigation Lock is normally a long narrow constructed canal type structure of suitable dimensions to allow a boat to pass through it.
The Miter Gates are located at both ends of the structure to allow the controlled flow of water in and out of the canal like structure. The level of water inside the chamber can also be raised or lowered via water troughs type conduits, that are formed in the side piers of the structure, to match the river level that the boat is navigating towards.
The Miter Gates are fabricated in steel plates that are suitably reinforced with various steel sections to withstand the water pressures.
Flexible and custom made design solutions:
- The gate dimensions can be adapted to fit with the existing site conditions or with special design required by the civil works;
- The gates are operated in balanced conditions, while their structure is designed to withstand the ful water load;
- Sealing System: rubber seals located in the bottom and side edges of the gates that seat into a stainless steel sealing frames that are attached to adjacent structure.
Versatile Operating systems:
A) Hydraulic cylinder double action: opening and closing by pressurized. The cylinders are placed on the lateral pier;
B) Special operational system defined and agreed with the customer;
Possibility to supply a full set of accessories:
- Hydraulic Power unit;
- Electrical Cabinet;
- Original Spare Parts;
All phases of the engineering design and fabrication through to final testing are undertaken by Vortex Hydra in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
